Daily Devo:
"This is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it." -Psalm 118:24
Today, I encourage you to take a moment to listen to the words of this song and worship the Lord with gratitude! Whether you want to sing along (it's very repetitive!) or just close your eyes and listen, allow yourself to be fully present while it plays. Share in the comments below what you feel the Lord was teaching you or saying to you through this song!
Song: Grateful + Reckless Love // Watermark Music (you can find it on YouTube or Spotify!)
Daily Devo:
"Gratitude is not only the posture of praise but it is also the basic element of real belief in God. When we bow our heads in gratitude, we acknowledge that the works of God are good. We recognize that we cannot, of ourselves, save ourselves. We proclaim that our existence and all its goods come not from our own devices but are part of the words of God. Gratitude is the alleluia to existence, the praise that thunders through the universe as tribute to the ongoing presence of God with us even now."
- Joan Chittister
One of the most beautiful reasons to practice gratitude is not because of what it does for us, but because it is a powerful way to show our reverence and awe of the Lord. When we choose to approach our day with a grateful heart we are acknowledging the beauty of what the Lord has done, and continues to do, in our life.
For your quiet time today, journal on these two questions:
1) What would it look like for you to live with a grateful heart?
2) Where do you currently see the mark of God's goodness in your life?
Daily Devo:
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;"
Psalm 136: 1-3
Today in our yoga practice we talked about the power of breath prayers. As you can see in the scripture above, there is something powerful about repetition and consistently speaking out truth.
If you didn't do the yoga practice for today, here's a quick recap: A breath prayer is when we attach a prayer to our inhale and exhale so that we can focus our mind on the Lord.
For example a breath prayer might look like:
- inhale: be still, exhale: and know that I am God
OR
- inhale: I give thanks, exhale: for I know that God is with me
To continue your practice for today, set a timer for 5 minutes on your phone, find a comfortable position, close your eyes and focus on your breath prayer. It's ok if your mind wanders, and you don't have to repeat your phrases for the full 5 minutes, but allow the intentional breath to help your mind stay focused on worship and creating space for God to speak to you!
Let me know in the comments how this experience was for you!
Daily Devo:
"Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving."
- Colossians 2:6-7
How does being in rooted in Christ allow us to more deeply experience gratitude? I believe there are many answers to this question! When we believe that God is working in our lives, we can trust that no matter what happens to us He is ultimately working it for good. This enables us to experience gratitude regardless of what's taking place around us.
Also, when we choose to fix our eyes on God instead of being distracted by what's taking place around us (especially the small things that always seem to go wrong!) we are reminded that the challenges we face daily are so minor compared to how big our God is.
Now, I want to hear your answer! How does being rooted in Christ allow you to more deeply experience gratitude? Take a moment to pray and journal about this, and then ask that God would give you opportunities to practice this today!
Daily Devo:
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe."
- Hebrews 12:28
Can you believe we are on the final day of our gratitude series? Take a moment to celebrate the fact that you committed to this series and showed up as much as you could! I am so thankful you joined us for this, and I'm proud of you for making time to invest in your health and faith.
As we moved through our yoga practice for today we reflected on ways that God has provided and cared for us in the past with the intention of cultivating gratitude for all He has done. When we make space to acknowledge God's presence in our life it breeds not only gratitude, but also peace and faith.
For your final quiet time today, take a moment to write out a prayer to God simply thanking Him for who He is and how He has showed up in your life!
